Himalayan Hermitage
Himalaya Hermitage was created back in 2017 by Sisse and Alex d'Artois.
Their rug collections stem from a desire to introduce the rest of the world to the fantastic craftsmanship found in the manufacture of unique Radhi rugs in Nepal.
Today they work with weavers spread throughout the Kathmandu Valley and every carpet purchased provides employment and helps sustain an industry of the ancient weaving craft in Nepal.
The Radhi rug is a classic Nepalese rug woven in calm Scandinavian colors. It is designed for a modern home, and to create warmth and coziness. Inspired by Nepal's exquisite craftsmanship combined with Nordic aesthetics, the rugs have a unique and timeless expression.
100% handmade
Hand weaving as a livelihood is a craft that is slowly dying out in Nepal, but with new designs and new markets that have a rediscovered interest in nature's materials, there are still weavers who choose to make this craft their livelihood .
Social sustainability
It is a matter of heart for Himalaya Hermitage to include the artisan families in the local communities. Each purchase helps provide employment for the weavers, and thus their families and local communities as a whole.
The raw materials they work with are carefully sourced and they use sustainable and natural fibres.
