The altar light
The history of the altar light began in 1950, when Jens Andreas Dahl Hansen founded the candle foundry Hygge Lys in Copenhagen. He designed a sculptural and timeless light that could stand directly on a table as well as the floor, and quickly became one of the leading suppliers to churches in Denmark.
An iconic Danish design that, in its combination of simplicity, aesthetics and function, is brought to life through skilled craftsmanship and the best quality raw materials.
Cast manually and processed by hand, all candles are still carefully produced in the Danish family-run candle foundry. In addition, the individual calendar candles are handprinted with numbers.
Sustainability , design, craftsmanship and first-class quality are united in the Altar light. For casting the candles, 100% vegetable stearin from palm oil, certified by RSPO, is used. Together with a specially made pure cotton wick, it gives the light a full flame and a stable burning that is environmentally and allergy friendly.
Since January 2015, Alterlyset has been a certified member of the RSPO/Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. Membership No. 9-0949-15-000-00.
